Texas Construction recognized the recent expansion of the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion with a 2009 Award of Excellence.
The Pavilion sustained considerable damage during Hurricane Ike which resulted in the undertaking of a $9.5 million renovation and expansion. The expansion included increasing the covered seating capacity to 6,500, raising the stage house for a better site line, complete replacement of the lighting system, a new lawn sound system, new fan system for better air circulation under the roof, additional safety enhancements, new way-finding signage in and outside of the facility, improved ADA and facility access and upgraded lawn drainage.
The project was completed in just five months by the joint efforts of Fretz Construction Company and Rey de la Reza Architects. To meet this schedule construction crews worked seven-days a week and toward the end of the project multiple crews worked 24-hours a day.
