Christ the redeemer catholic church
wins best of 2009 award

Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church in Houston was awarded a Texas Construction Best of 2009 award in the Worship category.

According to Texas Construction, judging criteria include safety, innovation, contribution to the community or industry, construction quality and craftsmanship, and function and aesthetic quality of design.

Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church is a growing congregation located in northwest Houston. The project designed by HBL Architects included a new 27,000 square foot sanctuary, renovation of the existing Sanctuary into a new Day Chapel with classrooms and storage rooms and new parking areas. The building was designed from a Catholic Spanish influence, with the 42 foot diameter dome and 100 foot tall bell tower as the focal points of the building.

The large gathering space is highlighted by a 52 foot high stained glass window at its north end. The focal point of the Nave is the beautiful mosaic tile dome, encompassing more than 1,800 square feet of surface area. The dome mosaic, designed and installed by artist Greg Haas, includes more than fifty shades of Venetian glass and gold prepared in 200 mosaic segments.
